Most people recover with rest, plenty of fluids, warm drinks and food, and gargling with warm salt water for a sore throat. Your doctor may suggest medicine for fever or aches. Do not use leftover antibiotics, do not buy them without a prescription, and if a doctor does prescribe an antibiotic, finish the course as directed.<\/p>\n
Wash your hands often, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, stay home when you are ill and ventilate your room. A yearly flu vaccine is advised for older adults, pregnant women, young children and people with long-term conditions such as diabetes, asthma or heart disease. Ask your doctor.<\/p>\n
See a doctor promptly if you have a high fever for more than three days, trouble breathing, chest pain, confusion, bluish lips, signs of dehydration, or symptoms that improve and then suddenly worsen. A fever in a baby under three months needs immediate medical attention.<\/p>\n
